Cleveland-Cliffs Inc

Cliffs and the communities in which we operate are inextricably linked. We are frequently reminded of this relationship when we learn about how our employees and their families are connected to the organizations with which the Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation partners. That was the case with East Range Developmental Achievement Centers (DAC) in Eveleth, MN.

The East Range DAC has provided persons with disabilities a program emphasizing independence, community inclusion, meaningful work and employment since 1966. Employees reuse, upcycle and create hand-crafted products for sale, as well as provide support for local businesses. Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation made a donation to East Range DAC when it became evident they needed to replace an elevator to maintain operations and serve their clients.

It was easy to support East Range DAC because of the important work they do in building an inclusive community. When the time came to present East Range DAC with the foundation contribution, Cliffs’ employees were pleasantly surprised to meet the impressive individuals involved with the organization who also had family members working at the mines. It is these types of projects that demonstrate the meaningful impact that the foundation has for our local families and communities in which they live.

Partner Testimony

Cleveland-Cliffs provided funding to help the EAST RANGE DAC pay for a mandatory elevator replacement.  The elevator in our building enables 96 adults with intellectual disabilities and 24 staff to access the work opportunities throughout our three story building.  ERDAC would not be able to exist without an elevator.

Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation is viewed very positively on the Iron Range.  I am on the board of directors of several non-profit agencies and when the Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation is brought up there is nothing but glowing accolades regarding the work that they do.

I never miss a chance to tell others how wonderful Sandy Karnowski (District Manager, Public Affairs) and Chad Asgaard (General Manager, United Taconite) were when they made the check presentation to ERDAC.  They were interested in what ERDAC does and were very engaged with everyone they came in contact with.  They asked great questions and really made us all feel very comfortable.  I have been at ERDAC for 35 years and have never experienced a more heart-warming interaction during a presentation.  The Iron Range is fortunate to have Cleveland-Cliffs in our area!
