Cleveland-Cliffs Inc

When Cleveland-Cliffs broke ground on the Toledo HBI plant, we recognized that we needed to take the time to understand the most pressing needs of the community. As a result, we built relationships with community leaders to hear about the causes where funding would be most impactful. One of the challenges identified was affordable, quality housing, which led to a natural relationship between Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation and Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation began by investing in Birmingham “Rock the Block,” a day for volunteers to engage in beautification and repair projects in the Birmingham neighborhood. We were so impressed with the work of Habitat for Humanity that Cliffs grew our support for the organization to fund more roof repairs, and health and safety related projects, in Birmingham and East Toledo through their Home Repair Program. Cleveland-Cliffs looks forward to witnessing the positive impact that this organization and our partnership is having in the community.

Partnership Testimony

The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation has given a hand up to families in need in East Toledo with generous gifts to Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.  These donations have funded community revitalization projects "Rock The Block" in the Birmingham Ethnic Neighborhood as well as other home repair projects. The Foundation's commitment to supporting affordable housing in East Toledo has better positioned us to continue to expand our efforts to address the affordable housing crisis in Lucas County by enabling residents to remain in their homes regardless of age, disability, or financial situation. In addition to improving homeowners' quality of life with these projects, Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation's generosity also serves to increase pride in ownership, improve real estate values, and heighten respect for the neighborhoods of East Toledo.

East Toledo residents are excited that Cleveland-Cliffs is choosing to invest on their side of town, especially in the Birmingham Ethnic Neighborhood. Members of the Birmingham Development Corporation and Block Watch had extremely positive opinions of the Foundation's work at the 2018 Birmingham Rock The Block and were thrilled that Cliffs was sponsoring the event again in 2019 and increased their support to the Home Repair program in East Toledo. The people who are working to improve East Toledo see Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation's partnership with Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity as what they need to make real, lasting, positive changes.
