Cleveland-Cliffs Inc

Do you know an inspirational woman who resides in the vicinity of one of our Cleveland-Cliffs, AK Steel or AK Tube facilities who has overcome obstacles to make a positive difference in the lives of others? If so, we encourage you to nominate her for the 2020 Steel Magnolia Awards.

This award is sponsored by the AK Steel Foundation and is being expanded to recognize women in the Cleveland-Cliffs communities. Each Steel Magnolia Award winner will be presented with a commemorative plaque from the AK Steel Foundation in recognition of her accomplishments. In addition, the AK Steel Foundation will sponsor a $2,500 grant to an eligible non-profit organization selected by each award winner.

Nomination Form

A downloadable nomination form is available for your convenience. Please note that nominees need not be associated with Cleveland-Cliffs, AK Steel or AK Tube to receive the award. Specific eligibility requirements are included in the application.

Deadline for Nominations

The Steel Magnolia Award program is administered with assistance from the Middletown (OH) Community Foundation. Nominations must be submitted to the Middletown Community Foundation by December 11, 2020.  All nominations must be mailed to the address on the nomination form.

The Steel Magnolia Awards were inspired by the memory of Karen Wellington, a courageous woman and friend of the AK Steel Corporation, who battled cancer for 10 years so that her children would have a memory of their mother.  Karen’s strength continues to inspire others, as she lived longer than anyone else at the time with stage four breast cancer. The AK Steel Foundation underwrites the Steel Magnolia Awards, and the Middletown Community Foundation independently manages the program and selects each recipient.

Questions regarding the Steel Magnolia Award Program can be directed to Melissa Benedict, Executive Director of the AK Steel Foundation at Melissa.Benedict@aksteel.com.   Specific questions regarding the selection process should be directed to the Middletown Community Foundation at 513.424.7369.
