Supporting Youth and Healthy Communities

Cleveland-Cliffs’ relationship with the Boys & Girls Clubs organization has a long and rich history. In 1954, the first Boys Club was established in Cleveland by a group of corporate executives from Cliffs and Republic Steel (now Cleveland-Cliffs’ Cleveland Works) who wanted to create a safe place for neighborhood kids. In 1976, the organization earned distinction as a national thought leader by welcoming girls as members.

In conjunction with the Cleveland Cavaliers partnership announced in 2022, The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation pledged $500,000 of new funding to support Boys and Girls Clubs serving our host communities. Clubs within the company's operating footprint were encouraged to apply for competitive grant dollars to support capital and program related expenses that encourage healthy lifestyles. After review of many worthwhile projects, The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation awarded $494,029 to the following Clubs:

  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of the Northland (Hibbing, MN)
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton (Ohio)
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of West Chester/Liberty (Ohio)
  • Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Clubs
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Harrisburg
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Ohio
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region

The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation awarded funds to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo to support the addition of an exergame room with six exergame modules that combine exercise and gaming for physical and cognitive activity that is engaging and fun.
